One week ago today, I had to say an agonizing good-bye to another studio buddy. Dexter was a part of my life for only 5 months, but I loved him like he was mine since kittenhood.
He was young - only about 6 years old. Adopted from a rescue, his past was a mystery. I didn't understand how anyone could give up such a loving, vibrant, handsome lovebug.
I found out the hard way when his health and my financial concerns forced me into making the hardest and most regretted decision of my life. I now understand the phrase, "sick with guilt". I wish life had one Do-Over. I would have used it for you.
The guilt and regret will always be with me, but so will the love and wonderful memories. I desperately cling to the memories of the good days we shared and hope they are enough to sustain me until enough time passes that I can think of you and smile instead of remember you with tears.
Dexter, my love, I will always miss your presence in the studio. You always knew when I needed a break and climbed into my lap or onto my shoulders. You were a top-notch studio buddy.
I will never, ever forget you...
